Koen Lemmens

Hallo!

I am Koen Lemmens, 41 years old and I may call myself “Tailwind Trailblazer” since the beginning of 2024. I live in Buggenhout together with my wife Fien and our adolescent sons. My running journey started in 2017 running the Amsterdam marathon.

I had a taste for it and was looking forward to longer and longer distances. So in 2018 I ran the Antwerp Ultra (marathon and 10 miles one after the other for charity) and the Death March 100km.
After this followed Bello Gallico and Great Escape 100mile, Grand Ballon, Trail du Verbiers – St Bernard, Olne-Spa-Olne, attempt at Legends Trail 250 (DNF but already scheduled for 2025 ;-)), …

I felt after the road marathons that trailing is more my thing. The experience, atmosphere, running colleagues are completely different. The sense of belonging and camaraderie are much greater at trail events than at track runs. Quickly I noticed that this different way of running also required different way of eating….

More solid food among other things. Sufficient drinking has always been a work point…. I found most sports drinks too cloying or too sweet and then I usually couldn’t get that in from a certain distance.

Tailwind was a real game changer for me, it stays tasty (even after 20+ hours and numerous miles), because it is liquid nutrition it also keeps me thinking about drinking and for me it is the perfect complement to my solid food.
