Endurance Fuel: Here are some guidelines to get you started with Endurance Fuel: 

• For 1-2 hour efforts at moderate intensity: one scoop (or half of a packet) mixed with 16-24oz of water. 
• For 2+ hour efforts at moderate - high intensity: 2-3 scoops mixed with 16-24oz of water per hour. 
• What about when it’s hot outside? Since Endurance Fuel contains enough electrolytes for most athletes, we recommend adding more water to your fueling plan before adding more Endurance Fuel. 

High Carb Fuel: Mix one packet of High Carb Fuel with 18-24oz of water. Keep in mind that taking in 90+ grams of carbs per hour requires some gut training. We recommend following a plan like this one to ramp up:

• Week 1: One packet of HCF over 90 minutes
• Week 2: One packet of HCF over 80 minutes
• Week 3: One packet of HCF over 70 minutes
• Week 4: One packet of HCF over 60 minutes

Recovery Mix: Mix one packet or 3 level scoops with 16+ oz of water and shake. For best results, drink within 30 minutes of strenuous exercise. 

Rapid Hydration: Mix one scoop or one packet with 16-14oz of water and shake.

Tropical and Raspberry Endurance Fuel are the only Tailwind products with caffeine. They each contain 35mg per scoop or 70mg per packet.

Yes, absolutely! Caffeine-free Tailwind products are safe for all ages to use.

The caloric needs of children during exercise can be different than adults depending on age. Feel free to ease off our Endurance Fuel recommendation of 200-300 calories per hour ratio. Please note that Tailwind does contain simple sugars. It’s important to understand that your body works differently when exercising than when sitting on the couch. We recommend Rapid Hydration for adults and kids doing shorter duration workouts and efforts.

All Tailwind Nutrition products work best when mixed with at least 16oz of water and shaken. 

Tailwind Recovery Mix contains all nine essential Amino Acids: L-Leucine, L-Lysine, L-Valine, L-lsoleucine, L-Phenylalanine, L-Threonine, L-Methionine, L-Histidine, L-Tryptophan. Recovery Mix also contains added BCAA's (branched chain amino acids).

Yes! All Tailwind products can be mixed ahead of time. Once mixed, we recommend storing in a cooler or refrigerator to keep the flavor fresh.

Endurance Fuel: Your training go-to. Your bread and butter. With carbohydrates, calories and electrolytes, Endurance Fuel has you covered for training sessions, races and workouts over one hour in length at a moderate to high intensity. 

High Carb Fuel: Race day jet fuel. High Carb Fuel provides 90g of carbohydrates per serving along with electrolytes and calories so you can keep your foot on the gas. We designed it for your highest intensity and most difficult efforts.

Recovery Mix: Use Recovery Mix within 30 minutes of your workout, training session or race to jump start the recovery process so you can do it again tomorrow.

Rapid Hydration: When your training plan calls for a shorter or recovery paced workout, Rapid Hydration is your best friend. Pro tip: You can also use it whenever you need a little electrolyte boost. Traveling? Sure. Yard work on a hot day? Definitely. Hot Yoga? You bet.

Most athletes can process about 200-300 calories per hour, even when burning 500+ during exercise. The right amount can also vary depending on conditions like temperature, humidity and workout intensity. We recommend starting with the guidelines below and adjusting based on how you’re feeling. If you feel hungry, dial up the calories a bit. If you’re feeling full or experiencing GI discomfort, dial it back.

• For Efforts Under 2 Hours: We recommend starting with 100-200 calories and adjusting as needed.
• For Efforts Over 2 Hours: We recommend starting with 200-300 calories per hour and adjusting as needed.

The short answer is because bonking sucks and we don’t want it to happen to you. The longer answer is a bit more complicated, so bear with us while we explain. 

Your body stores energy in the form of glycogen (sugar) and has enough to get you through about an hour of exercise. Once it runs out, your blood sugar plummets and you bonk hard. To avoid the crash, you need to put sugar back into your bloodstream.

Endurance Fuel contains simple sugars (dextrose and sucrose) as the primary ingredients. Simple sugars go straight into your bloodstream to replenish glycogen stores and prevent you from crashing or having an upset stomach during or after exercise. High Carb Fuel contains simple sugars for quick absorption while also containing maltodextrin for steady energy over long periods of time. 

Tailwind’s electrolyte profile mimics the composition of sweat that an average person would sweat in one hour. If you want more information on electrolytes you can read about it here.

Protein is essential for building and repairing muscle and is a key nutrient in Tailwind Recovery Mix. It is also a key nutrient for overall nutrition. That being said, we do not include protein in our Endurance or High Carb Fuels for two reasons. Protein does not help improve endurance when ingested during exercise. It is also more difficult to digest and can become a contributing factor to GI discomfort.

In addition to providing 20g of complete protein per serving, Tailwind Recovery Mix provides electrolytes to rehydrate after a tough workout and the right kinds of carbohydrates to replenish glycogen stores. 

Recovery isn’t just about protein. Our Recovery Mix contains the right types and amounts of carbohydrates to replenish glycogen stores after a tough workout, training session or race. 

We have chosen a natural cane sugar sweetener for Rapid Hydration. Compared to artificial sweeteners, cane sugar is easy to digest and facilitates hydration via active transport mechanisms. It also assists as a flavor carrier and makes the drink taste better without having to add artificial flavor enhancers.

To reduce our impact we have done the following: The Tailwind main office is in a building fully powered on renewable energy. Formerly, 50% of our packaging waste came from the scoop in the bags. We now use a PCW (post consumer waste) scoop that is made of all recycled materials. Having all of our business operations (production, packaging, shipping, marketing and operations) within the same county minimizes our carbon footprint and emissions.

We used to have an ambassador program (Trailblazers), but it's no longer open for new applications and we don't process individual requests for it either.

Yes. As part of our QA process, our products are consistently submitted to Eurofins Laboratory—an independent 3rd party laboratory for COAs (Certificate of Analysis) testing—to ensure we are meeting the specifications reflected on the nutrition label of our products.

Tailwind Nutrition products are manufactured by our team in Durango, CO. We have end-to-end visibility and control of the process from formulation to shipping. Our manufacturing facility is compliant with GMPs (Good Manufacturing Processes) and has passed FDA inspection. We are diligent in imposing consistent control points throughout the production process including organoleptic and lab testing. 

We Receive COAs (Certificate of Analysis) from the vendors for every ingredient that is used to formulate Tailwind Nutrition products. We follow a strict recipe with multiple checkpoints to ensure accuracy. The mixing process is followed by in-house testing on every batch.
